Archeology

Name of Department: ARCHAEOLOGY
Information: Archaeology may be defined as an upper structure of different disciplines in terms of scientific approach, methodology and structuring. The study period covers a huge time span starting with the first production of tools until the end of the Roman era. By studying all types of material culture remains derived from excavations and surveys, archaeology tries to reconstruct all aspects of past societies and their environment. Thus, archaeology tries to enlighten the unknown periods of the prehistory and the earlier phases of the historical periods and fill the gaps in this longest time span in the history of the humanity.
The Archaeology Department in Ankara University is structured in an appropriate manner to the definition of archaeology. Students with a BA degree can apply one of the three sub-disciplines in graduate level, i.e Prehistory, Protohistory and Near Eastern Archaeology and Classical Archaeology.
